BOCA RATON -- Jacksonville State's Shanika Freeman set a women's NCAA record by making 22 consecutive free throws Thursday night.
Freeman went 22-of-22 from the line against Florida Atlantic, breaking the single-game mark of 20 in a row. Kristeena Alexander of George Mason did it against UCF in 1996. Liz Beggs of Kent State tied the mark against St. Bonaventure in 2000.
Freeman, a 6-foot-1 sophomore center from Chattanooga, Tenn., finished with a career-high 42 points on 10-for-17 shooting. She added 13 rebounds, three blocks and two steals, but Jacksonville State lost 96-83.
The NCAA record for consecutive free throws is 60, by Ginny Doyle of Richmond in 1992.
"The last couple of games I would shoot a lot of free throws after the shootaround. Guess it paid off," Freeman said.
NO. 2 DUKE 61, CLEMSON 49: Alana Beard scored 21 and shut down the host Tigers' top scorer. Clemson's Chrissy Floyd, averaging almost 16 points, scored 11 on 4-of-14 shooting.
NO. 3 UT 86, MISSISSIPPI 43: Gwen Jackson had 19 points and 10 rebounds, and every Vol scored.
NO. 4 LSU 69, NO. 16 S.C. 66: Seimone Augustus scored 26, including two free throws with 7.1 seconds left, for the visiting Tigers. Cristina Ciocan missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
NO. 6 STANFORD 85, OREGON 54: Kelley Suminski and Nicole Powell each scored 15 to lead the Cardinal to its 22nd straight home victory.
NO. 10 PURDUE 74, N'WESTERN 56: Erika Valek scored 18 as the Boilermakers improved to 11-0 at home.
NO. 17 UGA 76, NO. 12 MISS. ST. 71: Visiting Mississippi State's aggressive defense temporarily paralyzed Georgia, turning a double-digit lead into a nail-biter. Christi Thomas scored 22 as Georgia held on, going 7-of-8 from the free-throw line in the last 2:30. Georgia led 54-44 when State went on a 10-0 run, eight in 30 seconds when Georgia could not get the ball to halfcourt.
NO. 13 PENN STATE 82, ILLINOIS 69: The visiting Nittany Lions' Kelly Mazzante became the first Big Ten player to reach 2,000 points as a junior, and also got her 200th steal.
NO. 25 OSU 66, NO. 15 MINNESOTA 58: Kim Wilburn and Courtney Coleman each scored 18 and host Ohio State took control with a 16-4 run.
NO. 18 VANDY 80, ALABAMA 69: Jenni Benningfield had 19 points and 11 rebounds for the host Commodores.
ARIZONA 79, NO. 20 WASHINGTON 66: Dee-Dee Wheeler scored 25 and hit a 3-pointer to halt the visiting Huskies' run that closed a 17-point deficit to six with 13:01 left.
NO. 21 WISCONSIN-GREEN BAY 79, CLEVELAND STATE 59: Kristy Loiselle scored 19 for the Phoenix, who opened the game with an 18-2 run.
