Leto hires Cogmon as coach

TAMPA -- Leto athletic director Oscar Gonzalez looked no farther than his recent past to find his school's new football coach, Jerrell Cogmon, who was hired this week.

Just a few years ago, Gonzalez and Cogmon were working together at Tampa Bay Tech. Gonzalez was the athletic director and Cogmon was a football assistant.

"I know he has great character from our time at TBT," Gonzalez said. "I also know he's matured into a young man who's ready for this kind of opportunity."

Cogmon, 28, is a Plant and Bethune-Cookman alumnus and has been an assistant at Tampa Bay Tech and Freedom, where he focused mainly on defense.

Cogmon replaces Andy Martin, who went 0-10, 4-6 and 0-10 the past three seasons with one of those victories coming on a forfeit.
