Deputies look for men in purse snatching attempt

HOMOSASSA -- Officials from the Citrus County Sheriff's Office are looking for a white man who tried to snatch a purse from a 64-year-old Homosassa woman at a Sunny Days Plaza laundry on U.S. 19 at about 7:05 p.m. a week ago Saturday.

He is described as having a light complexion, unusual blue-green eyes and light blond hair, worn in a long ponytail.

He is thought to be in his early 20s, 5 feet 7 to 5 feet 9, 180 pounds and with an average build. At last sighting, he wore a black-zippered jacket and blue jeans.

Witnesses said he talked with another man in the area. They described this man as a white man with short red hair, 5 feet 7 and 180 pounds. He was seen wearing a black ball cap, a teal-blue jacket with a purple design and blue jeans.

Officials do not know if he was involved in the incident. Neither man has been found. Anyone with information on the men is asked to call the toll free tips line, 1-888-269-8477.

Man wanted in Oklahoma armed robberies arrested

CRYSTAL RIVER -- A server at Cracker's Bar & Grill was arrested Friday after police discovered he was wanted in Oklahoma in connection with four robberies with a firearm.

Benjamin Eugene Bennett, 25, was found at his job, according to an arrest affidavit.

The arrest came after Citrus County Sheriff's Office deputies drove by Bennett's home at 5317 S Manatee Ter., Homosassa Springs, for two days.

On Friday, police saw a car matching the description of Bennett's, leave the home. Officials discovered the driver was not Bennett, but the driver supplied information on his whereabouts.

Bennett remained at the Citrus County jail Saturday morning.
