DUNEDIN -- Authorities have identified a man who was struck and killed by a tow truck Friday afternoon as John J. Hayes, 62, of Clearwater.
Hayes was crossing Douglas Avenue near Lexington Avenue in Dunedin about 4:30 p.m. Friday when he stepped in front of a 27,000-pound tow truck, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
The truck's driver, Mark J. Veno, 43, of Oldsmar hit the brakes but couldn't avoid Hayes, sheriff's officials said. No charges were filed.
