University of South Florida students eager to tap into the world of work now have the option of virtual job interviews. A career fair at the Sun Dome recently gave students their first demonstration.

The video-recorded interview is a 20- to 30-minute session in which students respond to common interview questions such as "What's your greatest asset?" and "Tell me about your work experience." During the recording session, students see a video image of a simulated interviewer smiling, nodding and taking notes.

Prospective employers can view the completed interviews through a Web site just as they would other Internet videos. When companies contact USF about job openings, the university's career center will supply the Web site links along with the resumes of students who have the qualifications the employer is requesting.

Students pay a $25 fee to use the service, increasing to $50 next semester. USF alumni also can access the service along with other career center resources by paying an additional $50 annual fee. USF is offering the service in partnership with Interview USA Inc. of Sarasota.
