A man driving a stolen Dodge Durango sport utility vehicle was speeding west on 18th Avenue S near 23rd Street S when he lost control, veered into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a Nissan sedan on Sunday afternoon, said St. Petersburg police Officer Jay Clayton.

A couple and their two children, whose names were not available, were taken by ambulance to Bayfront Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, Clayton said.

Witnesses said the man driving the SUV ran from the accident. Police were searching for him Sunday night.
