Tampa Prep, Berkeley waiting on opponents

The Tampa Prep and Berkeley Prep boys soccer teams are still waiting to find out who they will play in Thursday Class A region quarterfinal games.

Berkeley defeated Tampa Prep in the District 5 final, meaning the Bucs will host the runner-up from the District 6 championship Friday night between Lake Placid and Lakeland Santa Fe. The Terrapins will travel to play the winner.

The problem is the Lake Placid-Santa Fe game was stopped by the referee with six minutes remaining due to excessive fighting. Santa Fe led 2-0 at the time.

Lake Placid received eight yellow cards and one red card during the game while Santa Fe did not receive any cards.

Ron Allen, the FHSAA's Associate Commissioner for Athletic Operations, was collecting and reviewing information Monday and is expected to make a decision today.
