Teen inmate accused of battery

LECANTO -- A 16-year-old inmate at Cypress Creek Academy has been accused of battering a youth counselor in a classroom Monday. Anita Parsons, the counselor, told a Citrus County sheriff's deputy that Marvin Sanders Jr. grabbed her from behind, grabbed her arm, then put his hand on her ribs and pushed her. Later, she said he grabbed her left wrist and pushed her again, an arrest record showed. A witness in the room at the time said Sanders also told Parsons to get out of his way. Sanders was charged with one count of battery on the juvenile detention staff.

Report: Man struck police dog

HERNANDO -- A man was arrested early Tuesday after being accused of striking a police dog on the head with his leg, urinating on the Withlacoochee State Trail and running from law officers. Samuel Gordon Clemons Jr., 42, whose Hernando address is not listed, ran into a wooded area after a patrol deputy saw him urinating in public, an arrest report said. A dog helped locate Clemons, who eventually put himself face down on the ground with his hands behind his back, the report said. He was medically treated on the scene for a dog bite, then taken to Citrus Memorial Hospital for more treatment. His bail was set at $6,000. Citrus jail officials said Clemons was not being held there Tuesday afternoon.

Be on the lookout for solicitation

INVERNESS -- A caution: Some local residents have received a solicitation in the mail from "The Healing Hands Busy Book" out of Chicago, asking for a $25 "donation" for five books. The books are said to be destined for Citrus Memorial Hospital for children to use during their hospital stays. Citrus Memorial issued a statement Tuesday saying it is not associated with this solicitation in any way. Residents receiving this solicitation should discard it, hospital officials said.
