FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Ron Slay scored 23, 17 in the first half, to power Tennessee to a 70-62 victory over Arkansas on Wednesday for its fifth straight win and its first in Fayetteville since 1993.

Dionisio Gomez did his best to match Slay, tying his career high with 18 points, but Arkansas had long scoring droughts in both halves.

Thaydeus Holden and C.J. Watson took over in the second half, finishing with 17 and 15 points, respectively.

Arkansas opened the second half with a 9-1 run to take a 34-29 lead. Gomez hit two long jumpers within a minute with just over 16 minutes left.

The Vols went on a 15-0 run to build a 44-34 lead with 10:44 left. Slay contributed two free throws to the run, which ended on two technical free throws by Holden.

Arkansas coach Stan Heath received a technical after complaining about a no-call following a layup by Holden. Heath thought Holden had committed a charge.

S. CAROLINA 76, CLEMSON 59: Carlos Powell, the Gamecocks' leading scorer held in check most of the game, hit a 3-pointer to spark a late 15-1 run and lead host South Carolina to its third straight victory against its instate rival.

LSU 79, VANDY 60: Collis Temple III scored 19 and made 5 of 6 3-pointers to lead the host Tigers, who had lost six of seven conference games over the past 25 days.

ACC

UNC 81, UVA 67: Freshmen Rashad McCants and Raymond Felton scored 21 each to lead the host Tar Heels. McCants, who had scored a total of two in the past two games, broke out of his slump to give North Carolina its second straight league win and first in five games against the Cavaliers.

N.C. STATE 63, GA. TECH 57: Levi Watkins scored a season-high 18 and Julius Hodge's only field goal was a key one down the stretch as the host Wolfpack avoided its first three-game losing streak since March 2001 despite making 4 of 22 3-pointers.

C-USA

CHARLOTTE 59, HOUSTON 55 (OT): Demon Brown scored six of his 12 in overtime and Chris Sager hit two free throws with 4.7 seconds left as the host 49ers ended a three-game skid despite blowing a 16-point second-half lead. Vincent Grier's runner in the lane was goaltended with 1:24 left to tie it at 51 for Charlotte, forcing overtime.

TCU 85, SO. MISS 78: Corey Santee scored 20 as the host Horned Frogs snapped a five-game losing streak.

State

LYNN 75, SAINT LEO 59: Lindsay Critten scored 20 and Justin Wingard 17 for the host Fighting Knights.

ECKERD 84, ROLLINS 79: Marcus Bryant scored 24 as the host Tritons handed the Tars their first Sunshine State Conference loss.

Nation

COACHES SUSPENDED: The Ohio Valley Conference suspended Eastern Kentucky coach Travis Ford, Tennessee State interim coach Hosea Lewis and Tennessee State player Josh Cooperwood for a game each for their roles in a benches-clearing brawl Monday.

HARVARD: Guard Pat Harvey has been declared academically ineligible, and the team's top scorer will miss the final eight games.
