She loved New York

photo

After you've smelled the roses and consumed the chocolates, take your valentine to the Tampa Gallery of Photographic Arts in Old Hyde Park Village, 746 S Village Circle, for a romantic predinner rendezvous with another kind of passion, Berenice Abbott's love affair with New York City. The mid 20th century photographer documented it most famously for the Federal Arts Project, producing a portfolio of scenes commonplace and stirring, such as this image of Penn Station, above. The exhibition, which continues through March 30, also includes some of her portraits, scientific studies and scenes from other parts of the United States. The museum is open 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free. (813) 251-1800.
