Last few days at the fair

The 99th annual Florida State Fair is in its final days.

The headline entertainment includes Stars of the Grand Ole Opry at 2 and 7 p.m. today, featuring T.G. Sheppard, Bill Anderson, Billy Walker, Charlie Louvin, Helen Cornelius, Jett Williams and more. Tickets are $7 and $10, plus fair admission.

Rising R&B star Ashanti, above, appears at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $10 plus fair admission.

Today is the final senior day of the fair, with $5 admission for ages 55 and older. Students in kindergarten through 12th grade get in for $5 on Monday. Friday, Sunday and Monday are ride armband days, with unlimited rides for $20.

Gates open at 9 a.m. daily at the fairgrounds, at U.S. 301 and Interstate 4 in Tampa.

Regular admission is $8 for adults, $5 for ages 6 to 11 and free for ages 5 and younger. Parking is free. Free shuttles are available on weekends from Tampa Bay Tech High School (Orient Road and Sligh Avenue). Shuttles run between parking and the entrance gate from 9 a.m. to 12:45 a.m.

Knights on parade

The final installment of the spring trilogy of parades in Tampa steps off at 6 p.m. Saturday in Ybor City and ends downtown, a reverse of last year's route. The Sant' Yago Illuminated Knight Parade starts at 23rd Street and Seventh Avenue in Ybor City, moves west to Nick Nuccio Parkway, then south to Nebraska Avenue. From there, it travels along Nebraska, Twiggs Street, Morgan Street and Kennedy Boulevard, ending back at Nebraska.

It's free to watch the parade along the route, but reserved bleacher seating is available for $16. Call (813) 353-8108.

Before the parade, the free Red Baron Pizza Family Fiesta begins at 2 p.m. in Joe Chillura Courthouse Square at Pierce Street and Kennedy. The festival includes entertainment, a midway with rides and games, a pizza party and more.

There's also free entertainment before the parade at Centro Ybor in Ybor City from 4 to 6 p.m.

Meet and greet the Rays

New manager Lou Piniella, above, and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays will meet fans and build enthusiasm for the new baseball season at the annual Tampa Bay Devil Rays FanFest Saturday and Sunday at Tropicana Field.

The event includes tours of the ballpark, games and contests, question-and-answer sessions and autographs. Single game tickets also go on sale Saturday.

FanFest is free and runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Parking also is free. (727) 825-3137 or toll-free 1-888-326-7297.
