Rezoning is topic for meeting
BRANDON -- A public meeting to discuss rezoning properties along the Lithia Pinecrest corridor is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Brandon Community Center, 510 E Sadie St. Hillsborough County staff will discuss the study and take suggestions from property owners and citizens. Call 276-8335.
Center Place meeting scheduled
BRANDON -- The annual membership meeting of Center Place is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. Tuesday at 619 Vonderburg Drive. An overview of the past year, by-law changes and the election of five board members are on the agenda. Call 685-8888.
Local cellist to conduct orchestra
SUN CITY CENTER -- Dale Whitney Kimura, a local cellist and music educator, will conduct the Sun Point Orchestra Concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Sun City Center United Community Church, 1501 La Jolla Blvd. The orchestra will play numbers composed by American composers, and three of Kimura's compositions are on the program. DAR luncheon is Wednesday
SUN CITY CENTER -- Members of the Col. George Mercer Brooke Chapter DAR will hold their annual luncheon at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Golf and Racquet Club, South Pebble Beach Blvd. Mary Lou James, Florida State Regent DAR, will speak. Cost is $17.50 and reservations are required. Call 633-7168.
Hearing to focus on water main
RIVERVIEW -- Hillsborough County will hold a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. Thursday to discuss the proposed construction of the Lake Grady transmission main. The project will provide potable water to Lake Grady neighborhoods. Staff will be available at Boyette Springs Elementary School, 10141 Sedgebrook Drive, to discuss the project and answer questions. Voice your opinions on traffic woes
BRANDON -- Traffic problems along James Street from Parsons Avenue to State Road 60 will be discussed at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Yates Elementary School Cafeteria, 301 N Kingsway Road. The public is invited to comment. A recommendation to Hillsborough County Commissioners will be based on this meeting. Call 272-5275.
Dinner/dance benefits student center
BRANDON -- Dennis Lee and his band will perform at a dinner/dance Feb. 23 to help raise funds for the Willis Peters Exceptional Student Center, formerly the Dover Exceptional Student Center. The dance is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Brandon Elks Lodge, 800 Centennial Lodge Drive. A cash bar and catered dinner begins at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 and go on sale Thursday. Call 685-6469.
Chamber seeks nominations

Artist to display portraits
RUSKIN -- Phyllis Whildin will have her art on display at the Blue Ibis Art Gallery at Frame Crafters Inc, 205 U.S. 41 until March 1. Whildin, a member of the Brandon League of Fine Arts and a resident of Sun City Center, paints portraits. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Home business is seminar topic
BRANDON -- Carole Gill, owner of CRG Training and Consulting Inc., will talk about "Moving Your Business Out of the Home." This seminar is sponsored by Sunshine State Federal Savings and Loan and is part of the Empowering Your Small or Home-based Business series held at the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce. St. Jude show seeks crafters
BRANDON -- Crafters are needed for the 25th Original County Craft Show, sponsored by the St. Jude Circle of Nativity Women's Guild. The craft show is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 8 at Nativity Church, State Road 60 and Bryan Road. This is an outdoor mixed media show of handmade arts and crafts. Spaces are $30. Call 689-4131.
