HUDSON -- It didn't matter that Hudson outshot visiting Lecanto 29-9 in Thursday's game at Cobra Stadium.

The result, as has been the case in all three Cobras-Panthers games this season, was another one-goal margin.

Hudson, which split two regular-season games with Lecanto, won 2-1 to improve to 4-1 in the first round in its past five playoff appearances.

The Cobras (20-6-1), one shy of the school record of 21 wins set in the 2000-01 season, host a regional semifinal Tuesday against Orlando Bishop Moore, a 1-0 winner over Jacksonville Bartram Trail.

"It's always the same with this team," Hudson coach Ron Ladimir said after the teams were tied at the half.

The difference Thursday, Ladimir said, was "the intangibles; an extra lunge here, an extra lunge there."

David Connors settled matters in the 49th minute by pouncing on a loose ball near the left post and firing the winner past teammate Jeremy Enix and two Lecanto defenders.

"They were all just rolling around in front and I kicked it," Connors said after his team-leading 19th goal.

In its first playoff appearance since 1997, Lecanto (15-5-3) lasted one round.

Jeremy Enix gave Hudson a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute. Matt Bielski partially blocked an errant clearing attempt and Enix shot the ball into the lower right corner for his 18th goal.

Although the Cobras had a 14-5 shot advantage in the first half, the Panthers tied it on Josh McKenna's 15th goal.

McKenna converted a pass from Dan Munsell off a goal-mouth scramble in the 34th minute.

Travis Miller, recovered from a broken clavicle, made six saves to preserve the win. His best stop came in the 69th minute, when he stuffed McKenna on a point-blank shot from the left side.
