Authorities on Saturday arrested two people in west Pasco on heroin possession charges.

According to an arrest report, Pasco sheriff's deputies stopped Jennifer Lynn Brockway, 23, of 16513 Platinum Drive, Spring Hill, in a Cadillac about 7:45 p.m. near State Road 52 and Waterson Avenue in Hudson. A search of the car turned up a bag containing powder heroin, a bag containing marijuana and a liquid-filled syringe.

Brockway told deputies the heroin belonged to her. She was held Sunday in the Pasco County Jail at Land O'Lakes in lieu of $3,000 bail, charged with possession of heroin, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Later Saturday, about 9 p.m., deputies stopped a Ford Explorer with no visible license plate near State Road 52 and Key Lime Drive in New Port Richey, according to a report.

The driver, Anthony Keith Christian, 22, told deputies his license was suspended. Deputies searched the car and found a pill bottle containing prescription pills and a bag containing "a chalky gray substance" that tested positive as heroin, the report states.

A pharmacy verified the pills were prescribed to Christian, of 7100 Oakley Ave., Hudson. He was arrested and charged with possession of heroin and driving with a suspended license. He remained in Land O'Lakes jail Sunday. Bail was set at $2,750.

Sheriff's Lt. Skip Stone said heroin arrests appear to be on the rise.

"It seems like it's a little more prevalent than it used to be," Stone said. "You never used to see heroin arrests (in Pasco County)."
