Hear the first 'Sunrise'
Director Rick Zielinski, above, leads the Master Chorale of Tampa Bay in works of Canadian composer Eleanor Daley this weekend. Daley's Listen to the Sunrise was commissioned by the chorus and will receive its premiere on a program that also includes her Requiem and Randall Thompson's Peaceable Kingdom.
Daley, music director at Fairlawn Heights United Church in Toronto, has more than 70 published works to her credit. Her Requiem, drawing from a wide range of texts, from modern poetry to the Book of Common Prayer, is her largest and best-known work. One of the movements, In Remembrance, with a touching verse by Mary Elizabeth Frye, is widely performed on its own.
Concerts are at 8 p.m. Friday at Lake Magdalene United Methodist Church, 2902 W Fletcher Ave., Tampa; 8 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, 701 Beach Drive NE, St. Petersburg; and 4 p.m. Sunday at St. Ignatius of Antioch Catholic Church, 715 E Orange St., Tarpon Springs. Tickets: $15, $20. (813) 258-9468.
