Suncoast city tourney bowler has perfect startBy PHIL GULICK© St. Petersburg Times published February 21, 2003 Stephen Kenyon rolled a 300 game, Jonathan Campos a 298 and Phillip Peters a 290 as the Suncoast Association City Tournament opened last weekend at Countryside Lanes. The event ends Sunday. Walk-in entries are invited at $20 per bowler per event. Kenyon shot his perfect game in the singles competition, and Peters produced 11 straight strikes in doubles play. The Assassins grabbed the doubles lead with a 3,119 pinfall. The team consists of Pat Klotchko, Dianna Mooneyhan, John Gesell and Barb Hendricks. Locked & Loaded was second, 3,064; and the Bums were third, 2,962. Jason Leone posted an 855 series to lead the singles. He was followed by Wayne Elliott, 794; and Peters, 779. Jonathan Campos and Louis Crispiano (1,521) head the doubles. Allan Jones and Walter Davis Jr. (1,516) and Andrew Rygiel and Leigh Kinseher (1,488) are second and third, respectively. All scores are handicap. Ron Averbeck is the tourney's director. PROFIT AHEAD: Shannon Profit owns an eight-point lead over Ashly Galante in the All-Star Girls Scratch Singles at AMF Clearwater Lanes. Profit is averaging 197 and has a 120-34 record. Galante is averaging 182 and has a 112-42 mark. Jamie Potter, with the season-high 278 game, is third. Terrance Reeves (139-8) heads the boys scratch singles. He is followed by Jacob Bilzing (111-36) and Josh Guinand (110-37). Reeves turned in the season's top game (289), and Bilzing has a 744 series. Team No. 11 leads the B.C. Junior Gold race with a 28-12 record. Joe Marino, Teresa Scanlon, J.R. Foraker and Tony Ward make up the squad. Team No. 10 -- including Potter, Guinand and Reeves -- is the All-Stars front-runner at 43-6. Strike Zone (42-7) is the Junior Olympians leader, and Princess Power (39-10) heads the Young Olympians. The leagues have a 30-week season and roll on Saturdays and Sundays. COUNTRYSIDE ROLLS: Countryside's No. 1 squad heads the Pinellas County Spring High School League standings after four weeks of a nine-week season. AMF Clearwater, Dunedin and Countryside lanes plays host to the preps. The Cougars are comprised of James Pryor, Timothy Reinoehl, Jennifer Gross and Cassie Carpenter (193 average). Pinellas Park is second, and East Lake's No. 2 team is third. YOUNG GUNS: Area youth players have scored well in various tournaments. Jesse Robinson, 15, Tarpon Springs, rolled a 231, 288 and 279 for a 798 scratch series in the Junior Gold program at Countryside Lanes. The ninth-grader nailed 10 straight strikes and an 8-pin spare in the 288 game. It was his first 700 series. He's averaging 190 and is an East Lake High squad member. Andrew Owens, Palm Harbor, finished fourth in the upper division of the Florida Youth Scratch Bowlers Tour in Ocala. He produced a division-high game of 286. Owens competes in Sport Bowling leagues at AMF Clearwater, Countryside and Tampa's Crown lanes. ABC UPDATE: Supreme Deck, Livonia, Mich., is the Regular Division leader (3,134) in the 100th ABC Championships Tournament in Knoxville, Tenn. Mark Jones and Dave Turner, Alton, Ill., head the doubles (1,398 pinfall). Ted Pritts, Mesquite, Texas, is the singles front-runner (759 series). Whitlow Furnace & Duct, Scobey, Mont., tops the Classified Division (2,797). Keith and Steve Petrie, Long Prairie, Minn., lead the doubles (1,215).
