The music of two legendary performers, Barbra Streisand and the late Bobby Darrin, accompanied by the swinging sound of the 42nd Street Orchestra, will bring back lots of fond musical memories Saturday.
Celebrity impersonator Rodi Alexander not only closely resembles the legendary Streisand, but also does a good job of singing her best-known hits.
As Streisand, Alexander certainly has a lot of musical material to choose from. Streisand won her first of many Grammy awards in 1963, and her songs have also been featured on motion picture soundtracks. She won the Academy Award for her song Evergreen in the 1976 movie A Star Is Born.
Alexander has been doing her impression of Streisand around the country for the past decade, and she has acquired many of the star's stage mannerisms, and also wears replicas of the singer's famous stage gowns. Gary Edwards will also sing the songs of the late Darrin, which should make for a great night of music.
During his part of the program, Edwards will sing Beyond The Sea, Dream Lover, Splish Splash, Up A Lazy River and, of course, the quirky ballad Mack The Knife. Edwards is a Las Vegas performer, and he will also sing great rock hits from the 1950s, such as Rock Around The Clock and Smoke Gets In Your Eyes.
The Big Band show is produced by the Kiwanis Club of Homosassa Springs. In its 17th year, the popular concert series is a major fundraiser for the Kiwanis.
Among the local charities which benefit from the program are the Boys & Girls Clubs, Key Center, CREST School, The Young Marines, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, and numerous local scholarships.
