CLEARWATER -- Berkeley Prep coach Ken Roberts said his team has slid through the playoffs unnoticed, quietly advancing.

But in the region championship, the Bucs met a much-too-familiar foe in Clearwater Central Catholic. And despite missing two defensive starters, the Marauders shut Berkeley Prep down, winning 3-0.

Senior midfielder Jessica Hallgren scored all three goals in the second half to help advance the Marauders to their seventh consecutive final four.

CCC senior sweeper Samantha Robinson watched the game from the bench in street clothes with a broken left arm, and sophomore backfielder Ashley Wall joined her 17 minutes into the game, going down with a knee injury.

In the second period, the ball started out Berkeley's (16-7-1) end of the field and hardly ever left. Hallgren scored early in the half, getting a shot just inside the right goal post in the 47th minute.

"They got the first break in the game and in this matchup, that was the most important thing," Roberts said.

The Marauders dominated possession, out-shooting the Bucs 14-4 in the half. CCC (19-3-3) won almost every ball, even most of Berkeley's goal kicks, not allowing the Bucs to penetrate much past midfield for most of the period. Apryl Wall (filling who filled in for her sister Ashley), Liz Simmons and Julie Scanlon, were the CCC trio putting tight marks on the Bucs frontline.

"The three of them played so solid," Hallgren said. "They kept us in the game."

Berkeley seventh-grader Chelsea Hatcher was the only Buc who threatened to score late, but her few attempts weren't enough. Hallgren scored in the 66th minute and 74th minute.

CCC finds itself in a familiar place next Friday when the Marauders will play Jacksonville Bolles in the state semifinals. CCC beat Bolles in January 2-1.
