Tarpon Springs police charged a Pasco County man with leading them on a brief chase from U.S. 19 through the narrow, uneven streets of a mobile home park with his wife and 9-year-old son in the car.
Steven Michael Doty, 41, of 11426 Kane Lane, Hudson, was heading south on U.S. 19, doing 80 mph in a 45 mph zone, changing lanes and driving aggressively when a Tarpon Springs officer tried to pull over his 1994 Ford Thunderbird about 1 a.m. Sunday, according to arrest reports. Instead of stopping, Doty made a U-turn on U.S. 19 and pulled into and drove to the back of a mobile home park just north of Klosterman Road.
Doty told the officer he didn't see or hear the lights or sirens. After passing a roadside field sobriety test, he was charged with felony fleeing to elude a law enforcement officer and misdemeanor reckless driving and cited for speeding.
He was released from the Pinellas County Jail on Sunday after posting $5,250 bail.
