North Redington Beach Town Commissioner Seat 1By Times staff writer© St. Petersburg Times published February 26, 2003 Richard L. Bennett AGE: 60. BACKGROUND: He has been a town resident for four years and serves on the Planning and Zoning Commission. He previously was a member of the Crestwood Board of Education and the Wayne County Executive Board in Michigan. A native of Decatur, Ill., Bennett has a doctorate in education. He served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Reserve, retiring after 26 years of service. He is retired after working 37 years in management positions in the automotive industry. Bennett ran unsuccessfully for the Pinellas County School Board. He and his wife have two grown children. ASSETS: investments. LIABILITIES: none listed. INCOME: pensions. Thomas R. McCarthyAGE: 46. BACKGROUND: He has lived in North Redington Beach since 1969 and is a graduate of Seminole High School and the University of Florida. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1988 and served five years of active duty and now serves in the U.S. Naval Reserve as a chief petty officer. He served in Bahrain last year. McCarthy is a social studies teacher in a special dropout prevention program at the Pinellas Technical Education Center in Clearwater. He has worked for the Pinellas County school system since 1994. Before the Redington Beach Fire Department was disbanded, he served as a volunteer firefighter. McCarthy previously ran for the commission in 1999, receiving 45 percent of the vote.
