BACKGROUND: Daugherty retired to South Pasadena in 1991 from North Tonawanda, N.Y., where he was vice president of operations at Structural Office Systems Inc. He previously worked as a company's assistant treasurer and as a stockbroker. Daugherty graduated from Hammond Central High School, spent four years in the Navy and finished his education with a degree from Bryant and Stratton Business Institute, then New York Institute of Finance. He was a Moose Lodge member for 31 years, and for the past 43 years, a member of the American Legion. Daugherty has experience with political campaigns and worked on the North Tonawanda Downtown Redevelopment Committee. He recently joined the St. Pete Beach Lions Club and the Tampa Bay Beaches Chamber of Commerce. He is on the Mayor's Advisory Committee and the Planning and Zoning Board. He is married, has two grown children and one grandchild. ASSETS: stocks, bonds, mutual funds, money market, savings account. LIABILITIES: condominium mortgage, car loan, credit card. INCOME: Social Security, wife's office furniture and office supply businesses. Carol M. ClarkAGE: 63. BACKGROUND: Clark joined the commission last year, winning the election to fill the seat vacated by Dick Holmes. She is commissioner of the public safety department. Clark is originally from Canada and became a naturalized citizen after moving to St. Petersburg in 1958. She became a South Pasadena resident three years ago. Although currently retired, for many years she worked as a paralegal for Pinellas-Pasco Circuit Judges Alan Sundberg and Ben Overton, both of whom went on to become Florida Supreme Court justices. More than 15 years ago, she returned to school to become licensed as an insurance agent. Clark owned and managed her own property and casualty insurance agency for 10 years. She has volunteered at her church, raising funds for Meals on Wheels for three years, and for Hospice for a year. She is married, has four children and three grandchildren. ASSETS: condominium, certificate of deposit. LIABILITIES: none listed. INCOME: Social Security, pensions, investments, city of South Pasadena. Alexander HaakAGE: 72. BACKGROUND: Haak retired to Florida in 1998 and became a resident of South Pasadena just over a year ago. Haak, originally from the Netherlands, owned an advertising business for more than 35 years in New Jersey. He served as Dover Township mayor, police commissioner and recreation director. Haak has an extensive record of civic involvement, with Lions International, Boy Scouts, Moose Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and sports organizations. For many of these, he served terms as president. Haak is divorced from his first wife, and widowed by his second. He has three children and two grandchildren. ASSETS: mobile home, stocks. LIABILITIES: credit card. INCOME: Social Security, mortgage (holding), Netherlands social security. Joan L. RunyonAGE: 65. BACKGROUND: Runyon is running for her second term as city commissioner. She has been commissioner of the public safety and finance departments. She has lived in Pinellas County for 35 years and in South Pasadena for 10 years. Her 25-year professional career includes work as a dental office manager and dental assistant. Runyon's list of community activities included co-captain of the South Pasadena Citizen Emergency Response Team, Harbourside Condominium board member and South Pasadena Civic Club. She recently was appointed to the Area Agency on Aging for Pinellas and Pasco counties, and the Local Emergency Planning Commission for District 8. She is married to a former St. Petersburg interim police chief and has three children, five grandchildren and a great-grandchild. ASSETS: condominium, money market, certificates of deposits, savings.
