Treasure Island City Commission District 1By Times staff writer© St. Petersburg Times published February 26, 2003 Scott Barone AGE: 43. BACKGROUND: A native of New York, Barone grew up in Orlando and moved to Treasure Island nearly five years ago. He graduated from Jones College with a bachelor's degree in data processing. Barone is an independent technology consultant. He previously worked as an account manager for a California software company and an information technology director for an interactive retail management company in St. Petersburg. He also worked as business systems manager for Tropicana Dole Beverages in Bradenton and as a senior consultant for Texas Instruments in Plano, Texas. Barone also served in the U.S. Navy for four years. He and his wife, Elizabeth, own Caribbean Way, a retail and gift store in downtown Treasure Island. A volunteer firefighter, Barone also has been active in the Isle of Capri Civic Association for the past four years. He is a member of the Treasure Island Business Association and the Tampa Bay Beaches Chamber of Commerce. Barone has two children from a previous marriage. ASSETS: Isle of Capri home, stocks, and a retirement investment plan. LIABILITIES: mortgage. INCOME: consulting fees. Phil CollinsAGE: 54. BACKGROUND: Born and raised in Philadelphia, Collins enlisted in the U.S. Army Security Agency in 1967 and served for four years as a cryptologist and intelligence analyst. He then spent 26 years in the wholesale automobile industry. He sold his business in 1998 and is a semiretired real estate investor. He has lived on the Isle of Capri for 20 years. Collins was appointed four years ago to serve on the city's Planning and Zoning Board. He also is a member of the Isle of Capri Civic Association. He is a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, a member of the Make a Wish Foundation, the Civil Air Patrol and a volunteer at the VA Medical Center at Bay Pines. Collins is divorced with one son. ASSETS: Isle of Capri home. LIABILITIES: none. INCOME: real estate investments, stocks and bonds. Susan GivensAGE: 56. BACKGROUND: A native of New Jersey, the former Susan Carbonneau served as a commissioner fromDistrict 3 for two years before an unsuccessful bid for mayor in 1997. Givens moved to Treasure Island in 1975 and is a self-employed accountant. She also owns coin-operated toy machines. She married Jim Givens in 1997 and moved to the Isle of Capri in 2001. Givens is treasurer for the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 158, and a member of the Isle of Capri Civic Association. Givens attended Rutgers University in New Jersey and St. Petersburg Junior College. She has two children. ASSETS: Isle of Capri condo and a commercial office building on Central Avenue in St. Petersburg. LIABILITIES: mortgage.
