DAYTONA BEACH -- The keys for St. Petersburg Catholic in Tuesday's semifinal were a strong defense and finding a way to score.

The Barons gave up 31 second-quarter points and were shut out in the third. There went the strategy and Daytona Beach Father Lopez rolled to a convincing 74-39 victory.

Larissa McDonough scored 26 points as the Green Wave (25-7) earned the right to face Melbourne Central Catholic on Saturday for a berth in next week's state tournament.

The Barons finished 20-12.

Father Lopez pulled away from a 16-14 first quarter with that 31-point offensive display in the second eight minutes.

"They can shoot the ball," said SPC coach Nick Vandewalle, "We probably did the best we could on defense, but they have so many weapons. We don't have a scorer, we get our points in the flow of our offense."

Father Lopez' rebounding and second-quarter foul trouble kept the Barons from getting back on track.

"We never got back into the same rhythm," Vandewalle said.

Michelle Hooks and Stephanie Spiewak led SPC with nine points, while Shannon Tapp and Robin Link each scored six.
