Lowry Park Zoo welcomes spring

Lowry Park Zoo is celebrating the 15th anniversary of its renovation and rebirth with a new festival. Spring Fling at the Zoo is similar to the Winter Wonderland and Zoo Boo events held there in the winter and fall.

For the inaugural Spring Fling, Lowry Park has brought in hundreds of new plants and topiaries, such as the one above. The evening event will feature lights throughout the grounds shaped like flowers, butterflies, animals and other symbols of spring.

Many zoo animals are on exhibit, including baby bunnies, calves, chicks and goats. There's a "hibernating bear den," with animatronic animals, melting icicles and spring flowers. Plus, the garden areas will be filled with spring flowers to look at and to buy.

The Spring Fling runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, then continues at the same time on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights through March 30. Admission is $10.50 for adults, $8.50 for ages 3 to 11.

The zoo is at 1101 W Sligh Ave., Tampa. (813) 935-8552 or www.lowryparkzoo.com.
