Three Zephyrhills men charged with drug, chemical possessionBy Times staff writer© St. Petersburg Times published February 28, 2003 WESLEY CHAPEL -- Three Zephyrhills men were arrested Wednesday night after, authorities said, they found a stash of chemicals used to make methamphetamine. A Pasco County sheriff's deputy went to the Boyette Mine shortly after 10 p.m. after someone reported a suspicious car parked on the property, sheriff's spokesman Kevin Doll said. Inside the car, the deputy found partly stripped batteries, nasal decongestant and other ingredients used to make methamphetamine, a Sheriff's Office report said. The men inside the car -- Thomas Martin Vengard Jr., 38, of 5745 Ninth St.; Glenn Thomas Lane, 40, of 5022 Fifth St.; and Edward Koda Jr., 25, of 39052 Park Drive -- were charged with unlawful possession of chemicals. They were also charged with possession of methamphetamine. The deputy found 3.5 grams, or about one-eighth of an ounce, of the drug in the car, the report said. All three remained at the county jail in Land O'Lakes on Thursday evening in lieu of $30,000 bail each. Dade City man accused of growing marijuanaDADE CITY -- A 56-year-old Dade City resident was arrested Thursday morning after a police officer found 11 marijuana plants growing in his back yard, according to reports. A Dade City police officer went to Geary Lee Wilson's home at 14303 First St. around 9 a.m. to investigate a tip that Wilson was growing marijuana. In Wilson's back yard, next to a shed, the officer found the marijuana stalks growing in six planted pots, the police report said. Wilson told the officer he knowingly planted the marijuana seeds in fertilized soil "to see if they would grow," the report said. Wilson was charged with cultivation of marijuana and taken to the county jail in Land O'Lakes, where he was being held in lieu of $5,000 bail. Man charged with unlawful possession of chemicalsLAND O'LAKES -- A 32-year-old Tampa man was arrested Feb. 15 after a Wal-Mart clerk became suspicious about the items in his shopping cart. Creighton Bedford Reed of 7019 50th Ave. bought four batteries, nine boxes of nasal decongestant and two other ingredients used to make methamphetamine, according to a Pasco County Sheriff's Office report. Reed "did not provide an explanation for possessing the items in such a large quantity," the report said. Deputies arrested Reed outside the store, but he gave them several aliases instead of his real name, sheriff's spokesman Kevin Doll said. Reed remained in custody while authorities tried to determine his identity. When they did that on Thursday, he was formally charged with unlawful possession of chemicals. Reed remains at the county jail in Land O'Lakes on no bond, since he is also wanted on a Hillsborough County warrant. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
