Parcells and Glenn in surprise reunion

IRVING, Texas -- Of all the former players Bill Parcells could have brought in to join him with the Cowboys, receiver Terry Glenn might have been one of the least likely.

Instead, he's the first.

Parcells traded for the receiver he once derisively called "she," giving up an undisclosed draft pick Friday to acquire him from the Packers. Glenn restructured his contract, getting a five-year deal tailored to help the Cowboys' salary cap.

The Cowboys also re-signed offensive lineman Flozell Adams to a $25-million, five-year contract.

The Parcells-Glenn pairing isn't as odd as it might seem. The two have patched up their relationship since Parcells' infamous insult, and the enigmatic receiver is excited about playing for the coach who guided him to a record-setting rookie season.

Glenn was traded to Green Bay last offseason for a fourth-round pick and caught 56 passes for 817 yards and two touchdowns. He missed only one game because of an injury.

Eagles, Packers in swap

Green Bay, whose vulnerability on defense was magnified by injuries to defensive backs Darren Sharper, Tyrone Williams and Tod McBride last season, got some help when Philadelphia sent cornerback Al Harris and a fourth-round draft pick to the Packers for a second-round pick.

Packers coach and general manager Mike Sherman said Harris was acquired because the team expects to lose a couple of cornerbacks to free agency.

Harris, a nickel back who played behind All-Pro cornerbacks Troy Vincent and Bobby Taylor, had started 21 games since joining the Eagles off waivers from Tampa Bay in 1998. In five seasons, he had 171 tackles and seven interceptions and knocked down 41 passes.

BROWNS: Tight end Mark Campbell, one of a dwindling number of players who had been with Cleveland since its expansion season in 1999, was traded to the Bills for a middle-round draft pick.

CHARGERS: Pro Bowl fullback Lorenzo Neal, a 10-year veteran who has played in 144 consecutive games, was signed to a three-year, $4.5-million contract. Neal, 32, spent the last two seasons with the Bengals. For six straight seasons, the tailback behind him has gained at least 1,000 yards: Corey Dillon (Cincinnati), Eddie George (Tennessee), Warrick Dunn (Tampa Bay) and Adrian Murrell (New York Jets). In San Diego, he'll pave the way for another Pro Bowl running back in LaDainian Tomlinson.

COLTS: Defensive tackle Montae Reagor was signed. He spent the last four seasons with Denver, which selected him in the second round of the 1999 draft.

DOLPHINS: Pass-catching fullback Rob Konrad agreed on a four-year, $4-million contract. The deal also includes $525,000 a year in incentives, agent Drew Rosenhaus said.

GIANTS: New York's biggest free agent, offensive tackle Luke Petitgout, signed a six-year deal just before free-agency began.

LIONS: Ty Detmer re-signed after a season in which he did not play as a backup quarterback. Two other free agents, tight end Mikhael Ricks and cornerback Jimmy Wyrick, also signed.

REDSKINS: St. Louis running back Trung Canidate was acquired in a trade, and free-agent guards Randy Thomas and Dave Fiore were snagged to fill a long-standing need. Thomas, a four-year starter with the Jets and the top guard available in free agency, agreed to a seven-year, $28-million deal with a $7-million signing bonus. The Redskins gave up a fourth-round pick in this year's draft and guard David Loverne to get Canidate, who fell out of favor with the Rams. He replaces Stephen Davis, who was cut to meet the salary cap.
