Institute to offer travel-writing instruction
By Times Staff Writer The eighth annual Institute for Travel and Guidebook Writing, sponsored by the Society of American Travel Writers, will be held in Orlando from May 30 to June 1. The institute offers 15 hours of instruction on travel and guidebook writing; article queries and book proposals; contracts; Web zines and e-guidebooks; self-publishing and photography. The registration fee of $295 ($235 for Society members) covers course materials, most meals and social events. The faculty and their major credits include: Meredith M. Babb, editor in chief, University Press of Florida; Tom Brosnahan, Lonely Planet and Frommer Guides; Connie Emerson, Cheapskate's Guides and Writers Digest Books; Lee Foster, YellowBrix.com and Globe-Pequot; Herb Hiller, Fodor's and Pineapple Press; M. Timothy O'Keefe, former head of journalism division, Nicholson School of Communication, University of Central Florida, and Bruce Whipperman, Moon Handbooks. Now in its 48th year, the Society of American Travel Writers represents more than 1,300 travel journalists, photographers and media relations professionals.
