Basking in the sun, but concerned about freezes

The breezes were balmy and the setting elegant as executives of Progress Energy Inc. gathered with analysts on Wednesday and Thursday at the swanky Boca Raton Resort & Club.
But the thoughts of the utility executives kept turning to less lovely images of ice storms snapping power lines and downing trees as a looming storm threatened their North Carolina home base.
Fred Day, executive vice president of energy delivery for Progress Energy Carolinas, and public relations manager Keith Poston participated in three conference calls with storm-center coordinators in Raleigh on Wednesday, followed by a fourth one Thursday. They passed on continuous updates to chief executive Bill Cavanaugh and president Robert McGehee.
"It was kind of a surreal experience," Poston said, "standing where it's 80 degrees and sunny, and then you're on the phone where they have ice accumulation."
