DADE CITY -- A man was jailed after authorities said he abused his girlfriend and 5-year-old daughter and held them both captive for more than seven hours.

John Michael Sims, 31, 38132 River Road, faces charges of aggravated domestic battery and false imprisonment.

According to a Pasco sheriff's report, Sims became increasingly violent Friday. He verbally assaulted his girlfriend for several hours and struck her with a leather belt, the report said. He also struck his daughter when she tried to get between her parents, the report states.

He left the house about 8:30 a.m. Friday, and the woman and child went to a neighbor's house for help, the report states. Sims was being held Sunday in the Pasco County jail at Land O'Lakes on $10,000 bail.

2 Labrador retrievers fatally shot

NEW PORT RICHEY -- Two Labrador retrievers escaped from their owner's house and were shot dead Saturday by two men who said the dogs were acting aggressively toward some children, authorities said.

No charges were filed.

Neighbors Curtis Malone, 69, and Brandon Gibson, 30, told Pasco sheriff's deputies they've had problems with the dogs, both 9 months old, in the past. About 5:30 p.m. Saturday, they saw the dogs near Neszery Lane and Old DeCubellis Road attacking kids on four-wheelers and chasing another boy, who was fighting them off with a rake, according to a report.

Gibson got a .22-caliber rifle from his house and Malone got a handgun. Malone told deputies he stepped in between the boy and the dog and shot the dog. The other dog ran off, then stopped, and Malone shot it, the report states.

Owner Jerry Woods, who was outside raking leaves, told deputies he thought the dogs were in the house. He said he had just finished paying a $450 fine for allowing the dogs, Misty and Brandy, to run loose.

Teen accused of shooting at cars

NEW PORT RICHEY -- Authorities charged a 15-year-old boy with shooting a BB gun at passing cars on Saturday afternoon.

Four cars were shot at on DeCubellis Road near High Crest Lane about 1:30 p.m., but no one was injured, Pasco sheriff's deputies said. The right rear window of one of the cars was broken.

The teen, who authorities said admitted to firing a Power Master BB rifle at the cars, was charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle, according to a report.
