All Citrus/Hernando girls basketballBy Times staff writers© St. Petersburg Times published March 4, 2003 PLAYER OF THE YEAR KATIE STEELFOX, CITRUS -- The senior point guard averaged about 13 points, 5 assists and 5 steals, and she was a first-team selection last season. In four years on varsity, Steelfox set five single-season or career school records and passed the 1,000-point mark. COACH OF THE YEAR LORI LESSLEY, CENTRAL -- The sixth-year coach led the Bears (20-7) to second in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference and Class 4A, District 7 and their first 20-win season and playoff berth. FIRST TEAM DANIELLE ALBURY, SEVEN RIVERS CHRISTIAN -- The athletic 5-foot-11 center averaged a double-double with 14.7 points, 11.5 rebounds and nearly 4 blocks. She posted a triple-double with 20 points, 20 rebounds and 11 blocked shots Jan. 17 against Orlando Pine Castle Christian, and was two assists away from a quadruple-double. SAMANTHA DOWNING, CENTRAL -- Whether shooting from the perimeter or driving to the basket, the senior guard/forward kept defenses off balance, averaging a team-high 15 points on 40-percent shooting from the floor. She had six games of 20 or more points. ALYCIA LEPAGE, CITRUS -- The speedy senior guard was a defensive terror, averaging nearly 5 steals, 9 points and 5 assists. LePage was a four-year starter and finished second in the Citrus record books to Steelfox in career assists (326), steals (371) and 3-pointers (41). LACEY LYONS, SEVEN RIVERS CHRISTIAN -- The freshman forward made a strong push for player of the year with averages of 17.7 points and 10.3 rebounds and 46 percent shooting. She posted a school-record 51 points in a win over Montverde Academy on Jan. 28 and set the school's single-season scoring mark with 437 points. Lyons, who played on the varsity as an eighth-grader, has 639 points and 529 rebounds for her career. SHARESA SCOTT, CENTRAL -- A fourth-year varsity player, the senior point guard was the Bears' primary ball-handler and on-court leader. She was best in the district semifinal against Lecanto, scoring eight of her 12 points during a 26-8 second-quarter run that put Central in control. CASANDRA VEGA, CRYSTAL RIVER -- The Pirates' lone senior starter was good for about 12 points and five steals a game to earn all-area accolades for the second year in a row. Vega had 26 points in a victory over Seven Rivers on Jan. 3 and logged an 18-point, five-rebound effort against Hernando in a district quarterfinal win.
