Eagles squander a big lead for lossBy RANT JAMES© St. Petersburg Times published March 4, 2003 BROOKSVILLE -- Abraham Dowdell is not sure if it was bad execution or bad medicine, but he knows the result was, well, bad. The Hernando Eagles allowed a 20-point halftime lead to evaporate Saturday in an eventual 32-26 loss to the Central Florida Commandos in the Southern States Football League. In losing a 26-6 halftime margin, the Eagles fell to 2-3 and lost their second straight. "Maybe somebody put a jinx on us," said Dowdell, Hernando's owner/receiver. "I don't know if the guys got away from the game plan. Maybe they got too conservative because in the first half we were popping passes and going up and down the field like clockwork." Eagles quarterback Anthony Crescenzo threw for touchdowns of 30 yards to Fred Scrivens, 24 to Dowdell and 20 to John Jones. Terrance Clark had a 6-yard TD run. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
