ST. PETERSBURG -- Detectives are investigating how and why a woman in her 50s was killed in her house just off U.S. 19.

The woman was found dead Tuesday inside her home at 3304 58th Ave. N, where she had lived for decades. Authorities said she may have been killed Monday.

The woman's name was not released because authorities were trying to contact relatives. Detectives would not say how she died.

"It's very early in the investigation," said sheriff's spokeswoman Marianne Pasha. No arrests were made Tuesday.

The woman had been at work Monday, but did not show up Tuesday. A co-worker went to check on her and called 911.

Detectives found no signs that anyone had broken into the house.
