SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Billy Edelin had a season-high 26 points and Carmelo Anthony scored 14 of his 21 in the second half as No. 12 Syracuse beat No. 16 Notre Dame 92-88 Tuesday night, the Irish's third straight loss.

The Irish (21-8, 9-6 Big East), who trailed by as much as 21 in the first half, tied the score at 86 on a 3-pointer by Matt Carroll with 2:02 left. Anthony scored inside to give the Orangemen the lead again. After Torrian Jones made two free throws to tie it, Anthony gave the Orangemen (22-4, 12-3) the lead on a rebound basket.

The Irish had one last chance, but a 3-pointer by Chris Thomas rolled around the rim and out. Kueth Duany added two free throws for Syracuse with 8.5 seconds left.

Syracuse clinched a first-round bye in the Big East tournament. The Irish will finish fourth in the West Division.

NO. 4 TEXAS 74, KANSAS ST. 60: James Thomas scored 22 and had 15 rebounds as the Longhorns (21-5, 12-3 Big 12) finished 14-0 at home.

Brandon Mouton scored 13 and T.J. Ford 11 for Texas. Matt Siebrandt scored 12 for the Wildcats (12-16, 3-12), who lost their sixth straight.

NO. 5 OKLAHOMA 76, NEBRASKA 51: Hollis Price scored 20 as the Sooners (21-5, 12-3 Big 12) tuned up for Saturday's game against Texas by winning their 37th straight at home, the longest streak in the nation.

Nation

BC 92, VILLANOVA 84: Troy Bell scored a season-high 38 to give him more than 2,500 in his career and lead the host Eagles to their ninth win in 10 games. Boston College (17-9, 10-5 Big East) took over first place in the East Division. The Wildcats (15-13, 8-7) have lost four of five.

INDIANA 74, MINNESOTA 70: Jeff Newton scored 22 and had a career-high 16 rebounds as the Hoosiers (18-10, 8-7 Big Ten) won their second straight. The Golden Gophers (16-10, 8-7) made 8 of 27 3-pointers.

Louisville center cleared

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Louisville center Marvin Stone has been cleared to play by the NCAA, athletics director Tom Jurich said.

School officials had been awaiting word for a week on whether the team's 6-foot-10 senior would lose his amateur status for accepting improper benefits from Mark Komara, his former AAU coach.

BONNIES END SEASON: St. Bonaventure decided to boycott its last two games after having to forfeit six Atlantic 10 wins for using an ineligible player.

FRESNO STATE: The Bulldogs will not be allowed to participate in next week's Western Athletic Conference tournament after school officials pulled the team from other possible postseason play amid allegations of academic fraud.
