Woman slain in her home is identified
By Times staff writer ST. PETERSBURG -- A woman found dead in her home this week has been identified as Bernadette Myers, a production inspector in the space division of Honeywell International. Police said Myers, 53, died from upper body trauma. They think robbery might be a motive for the killing, said Marianne Pasha, spokeswoman for the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. Myers lived alone at the home at 3304 58th Ave. N in Lealman. Her pewter and beige, 2000 Honda Civic LX is missing. The four-door car had a leather interior, tinted windows and the license tag G76ATZ. Myers had gone to work on Monday and had errands to run on Tuesday morning. By Tuesday afternoon, co-workers became concerned. After getting no answer at her door, one of them peeked in her front window. "The co-worker saw something suspicious, which was later determined to be blood spots on the floor," Pasha said. "They called the Sheriff's Office and deputies found the victim on the floor in the house. She was clothed." Myers, who had a son and was divorced, was an inspector for space shuttle components at Honeywell's Defense and Space Electronic Systems division in Clearwater. She inspected the main engine controller, the computer for the main engines on space shuttles, said Tom Walden, 46, a co-worker who is now on disability. Myers worked for Honeywell for 23 years. "I have absolutely no idea who would do this," Walden said. "She's the perfect sweetest girl you could ever meet. She was a very dedicated Honeywell employee. That's why somebody went to check on her the first day." Anyone with information was asked to call the sheriff's office at (727) 582-6200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-8477.
