Bank teller charged with forging checkBy Times staff writer© St. Petersburg Times published March 8, 2003 HUDSON -- A 33-year-old bank teller was arrested Thursday and charged with forging a customer's check at World Savings Bank in New Port Richey, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office. Brenda Cornwell Roark, 10109 Landmark Drive, faces a charge of forgery. Detective D. Quinlan said Roark was working at the bank Jan. 14 when a customer came in to cash a $15 check. Roark accidentally gave the customer $150 and later realized her error when she balanced her cash drawer at the end of the day, detectives said. Fearing she would get fired, Roark changed a customer's check from $15 to $150, authorities said. It was a different customer, who noticed the problem after getting his bank statement later in the month, deputies said. Roark initially told detectives that she had not changed the check, but later admitted to the forgery, authorities said. She was released Friday from the Land O'Lakes jail on $5,000 bond. Teen stole purse from shopper, deputies say PORT RICHEY -- A teenager was arrested Tuesday after he stole a woman's purse outside the Target on Tacoma Drive, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office. The 17-year-old boy stole the woman's purse from her shopping cart while she was loading bags in the Target parking lot at 2:35 p.m. on March 1, deputies said. The teen then jumped into a 1990 Buick and left with the purse, which contained $452 worth of items, including cash, a mobile phone and credit cards, deputies said. In an interview with deputies, the teenager said he used the woman's money to buy drugs and threw the purse into a trash bin at an apartment complex. He was turned over to the state Department of Juvenile Justice. The Times is withholding his name because of his age.
