Hawks ride double hat trick

CHICAGO -- Steve Sullivan and Eric Daze each scored three goals and had two assists as the Blackhawks snapped a nine-game losing streak with an 8-5 victory Sunday over the Boston Bruins.

"I can't explain (the scoring outburst)," Sullivan said.

"I told Eric on the bench, 'Games like this don't come along very often. Let's take advantage of it.' "

Theo Fleury, placed on waivers by Chicago on Saturday, and Lyle Odelein also scored for the Blackhawks, whose skid was their longest since the 1988-89 season.

Mike Knuble and P.J. Axelsson each had two goals and Glen Murray added his 38th goal for the Bruins, whose three-game winning streak was stopped.

DUCKS 4, RED WINGS 1: Samuel Pahlsson recorded his first three-point game with a short-handed goal and two assists as host Anaheim ended Detroit's eight-game winning streak.

Steve Rucchin and rookies Stanislav Chistov and Kurt Sauer also scored as the Mighty Ducks avoided a four-game season sweep by the defending Stanley Cup champs.

Brett Hull scored his 29th goal for the Wings, who played without captain Steve Yzerman for the second time in seven games since his return from reconstructive knee surgery.

SENATORS 4, PENGUINS 2: Marian Hossa scored his 39th goal and added an assist as host Ottawa extended Pittsburgh's losing streak to nine. Mike Fisher, Zdeno Chara and Radek Bonk also scored for Ottawa, which retained its league lead with 94 points.

STARS 3, SHARKS 0: Ron Tugnutt stopped 23 shots for his third shutout of the season for host Dallas, which improved to a West-leading 93 points.

WILD 6, THRASHERS 4: Sergei Zholtok scored twice as visiting Minnesota equaled the franchise record for goals in a game. The Wild rallied twice from two-goal deficits.

Leafs acquire D Wesley

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Hurricanes traded defenseman Glen Wesley to the Toronto Maple Leafs for a second-round pick in the 2004 draft.

The trade had been rumored for a week but was finalized Saturday night when Toronto sweetened the deal, according to Carolina general manager Jim Rutherford.

"This is a relief, because there has been so much speculation," Wesley said before catching to plane for Edmonton to join his new team.

"It has been a very stressful time."

Wesley, a 16-year veteran and the anchor of Carolina's defense for nine seasons, goes from a team well out of the playoffs to a Stanley Cup contender. The Leafs also acquired Owen Nolan from the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday for the Eastern Conference playoff push.

PREDATORS-PANTHERS TRADE: Nashville acquired goaltender Wade Flaherty from Florida for defenseman Pascal Trepanier. Nashville also recalled goaltender Jan Lasak from Milwaukee of the AHL.

ISLANDERS-PENGUINS-FLYERS TRADES: New York acquired center Randy Robitaille from Pittsburgh for a fifth-round pick in this year's entry draft. New York also sent veteran forward Claude Lapointe to Philadelphia for a fifth-round pick. In other moves, goaltender Rick DiPietro was recalled by the Islanders from Bridgeport of the AHL and defenseman Alan Letang was sent to Bridgeport.

SHARKS: Defenseman Rob Davison was recalled from AHL club Cleveland to replace Bryan Marchment, who was traded Saturday to Colorado.
