The county's reduced fee cat spay program worked so well last month it has been extended into April.

Starting Thursday, the Animobile will be setting up shop around the the county, offering to spay a female cat for $25. Animal Services is especially urging low income folks to get their cats spayed and vaccinated, so pet owners with low household incomes can get the surgery for free.

On every Thursday and Friday until April 4, the mobile will sit near the Tarpon Springs Health Department.

The mobile then will be scheduled at locations in Clearwater and St. Petersburg. Those times and locations are being determined. Spaying starts at 8 a.m. and runs until 3:30 p.m. Appointments are necessary.

"A lot of people really need our services and live way up north or down south and they can't get here so we're going to go to them," said Dr. Welch Agnew, a veterinarian with Pinellas County Animal Services.

The county spayed 246 cats in February and this month is averaging about 10 cats a day. The county hopes to reduce a rising feline population problem. The Animobile also provides rabies shots and licenses.

Call 582-2600 to make an appointment.
