A horse show and plenty of live music make this weekend full of exciting entertainment options.
The second annual Sportsman's Sertoma horse show will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Pine Ridge Equestrian Center on Pine Ridge Boulevard. The horse show features English and Western saddle competition and speed events such as flag-racing, fence-jumping, mailbag pickups, a pole competition and arena races.
Admission is $2 per person, with children younger than 12 admitted free. Bring lawn chairs or blankets, because the grandstands are likely to fill up quickly. Free parking.
Music lovers have two choices: the Will McLean Music Festival today and Sunday at Sertoma Youth Ranch near Dade City, or the Cab Calloway Orchestra concert Sunday at Curtis Peterson Auditorium at Lecanto High.
To get to the Will McLean festival from Citrus County, take U.S. 41 south to Mondon Lake Road just outside Brooksville. Follow the road across U.S. 301 as it becomes Spring Lake Highway. The Sertoma ranch is on the left.
Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. today; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $12 today, $10 Sunday, or $20 for both days. Camping hookups are $12 with electricity, $7 without. Call (352) 465-7208.
The Cab Calloway Orchestra, under the direction of Calloway Brooks, who is Cab Calloway's grandson, performs at 3 p.m. Sunday at Curtis Peterson and at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Central Florida Community College Fine Arts Auditorium at the CFCC Ocala Campus off State Road 200. Individual tickets are $13.
The Old Courthouse Heritage Museum, 1 Courthouse Square, Inverness, is featuring a new exhibition, Alligators: Dragons in Paradise, through May 28. The exhibit includes artifacts such as alligator shoes and clothing, reproductions of skulls and a simulated nest with eggs.
Free admission. Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Call 341-6436.
The suspense thriller Wait Until Dark continues this weekend at Playhouse 19, 865 U.S. 19 S, Crystal River. The play runs Thursdays through Sundays until March 23. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $15 at the box office. Call 563-1333.
