DALLAS -- Regardless of whether he wants it, Bob Knight is starting to earn his money in the postseason. Nathan Doudney scored a career-high 25, mostly on 3-pointers, to help Texas Tech build a 20-point lead before halftime, then the Red Raiders held on to beat No. 3 Texas 92-81 in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 tournament Friday.
"I got some great open looks," Doudney said. "After I hit the first one, it all started flowing."
Andre Emmett had 30 points and 11 rebounds and Kasib Powell had 12 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists for the fourth triple double in school history to give Knight his biggest win in his two years with the Red Raiders and ending Tech's 13-game losing skid to Texas.
While an automatic bid remains the best way for Tech (17-11) to get into the NCAA Tournament, Knight's plucky squad is working its way into contention for an at-large berth.
For Texas (22-6), this could mean no No. 1 seed.
MISSOURI 60, NO. 23 OKLA. ST. 58: Travon Bryant, off a loose ball, got off a short jumper just before time expired to propel the Tigers (20-9).
Teammate Jimmy McKinney drove to the basket to attempt a winning shot, but the ball got knocked away in traffic. It bounced off the shoulder of Oklahoma State's Tony Allen to Bryant.
NO. 6 OKLA. 74, COLO. 59: Quannas White and Hollis Price both scored 19 for the Sooners, who led throughout after the Buffaloes made the opening basket. Two-time defending champion Oklahoma has won seven straight Big 12 tournament games.
NO. 4 KANSAS 89, IOWA ST. 74: Keith Langford and Aaron Miles made nearly every shot they took, and the rest of the Jayhawks weren't bad, either. The two sophomores combined for 35 points. Langford scored 19 as Kansas (25-6) loaded up on short shots. The Jayhawks hit 60 percent of their shots, with Miles going 7-for-10 and Langford hitting 8-of-12.
OHIO ST. 58, NO. 18 WISCONSIN 50: Led by a gritty defense and Sean Connolly (21 points), the Buckeyes (16-13), winners of three of their past four, shocked the top-seeded Badgers in Chicago.
"Winning the tournament, the main thing is just about desire," said Brent Darby, who made four free throws in the final 39 seconds. "So we just want to take each game one by one and not look past anybody. We can't afford to do that, anyway."
MICH. ST. 54, PURDUE 42: Alan Anderson and Erazem Lorbek scored 10 each and the Spartans defense did the rest.
The Spartans (19-11), with five straight wins, held Purdue to its worst scoring output of the season, including 12 points in the first half -- the Boilermakers' worst half since 1982.
NO. 13 ILLINOIS 94, N'WESTERN 65: Brian Cook had his sixth double double of the season to lead four players in double figures in the Illini rout. Cook, the Big Ten's leading scorer and player of the year, had 20 points and 12 rebounds despite playing just 27 minutes.
INDIANA 63, MICHIGAN 56: A.J. Moye powered IU comeback by scoring 16 of his 18 in the second half. The Wolverines (17-13) can't play past the conference tournament because of school-imposed sanctions stemming from an investigation into a former booster's dealings with ex-Michigan players. Indiana (20-11) rallied from an eight-point second-half deficit.
NO. 5 PITT 61, BC 48: The Panthers (25-4), who were beaten for the crown by BC two years ago and again by UConn last year, left no doubt in New York they would be back for a third try. The Panthers had the game's first seven points and never trailed against a BC team that had its worst scoring game of the season. It also was the fewest points BC has ever had in a Big East tournament game.
UCONN 80, NO. 11 SYRACUSE 67: Freshman Rashad Anderson had 21 points to lead the defending champions in a game the Huskies (21-8) had in command the entire second half. UConn has won three titles in its current run and five championships in all.
NO. 20 LOUISVILLE 78, NO. 16 MEMPHIS 75: In Louisville, Ky., freshman Taquan Dean sank a fading 3-pointer with 11.1 seconds left, his only basket of the game, and the Cardinals snapped the Tigers' 12-game winning streak.
Earlier Friday, Louisville cleared 6-foot-10 Marvin Stone to play as the NCAA continues investigating whether he accepted illegal benefits earlier in his career.
UAB 63, SAINT LOUIS 62: Eric Bush scored on a driving layup with 11.9 seconds left to lift the ninth-seeded Blazers (19-11).
OREGON 75, UCLA 74: Luke Jackson hit a 3-pointer with 17 seconds left for the Ducks in Los Angeles in likely Steve Lavin's final game as coach of the Bruins. Jackson's basket capped a 13-1 run in the final three minutes by the Ducks (22-9). Dijon Thompson led the Bruins (10-19) with 23 points and senior Ray Young added 21.
TEMPLE 63, NO. 10 XAVIER 57: The Owls' long-armed defenders put the squeeze on David West and ended the Musketeers' 16-game winning streak. Temple's defense throttled the three-time player of the year and the Owls (15-14) are in the tournament final in Dayton, Ohio.
NO. 22 DAYTON 76, NO. 25 ST. JOE'S 73: D.J. Stelly converted a three-point play with 48 seconds left for the Flyers (23-5), who staved off the Hawks' remarkable second-half comeback. Jameer Nelson scored a career-high 39 and helped St. Joseph's (23-6) erase a 19-point deficit in the second half. His two free throws tied it at 71 with 1:53 to play.
C. MICHIGAN 94, N. ILLINOIS 72: Chris Kaman scored 23 and the Chippewas made 12 3-pointers to make the final in Cleveland. Central Michigan (23-3) matched the school record for wins.
KENT ST. 73, OHIO 70: Anthony Wilkins scored a career-high 22 for two-time defending champion Golden Flashes.
S. CAROLINA ST. 72, FAMU 66: Dustin Braddick had 14 of his 21 points in the second half and the Bulldogs made 22 of 24 second-half free throws to make the final in Richmond, Va.
NEVADA 81, SMU 66: Kirk Snyder had 19 points and the Wolf Pack (18-12) never trailed in Tulsa, Okla. Four other Nevada scorers finished in double figures as the Wolf Pack won 18 in a season for the first time since 1997.
TULSA 66, HAWAII 56: Kevin Johnson scored 20 as the Golden Hurricane overcame 33 points from Carl English.
COLO. ST. 86, BYU 80 (OT): Matt Nelson scored six of his 28 in overtime for the Rams in Las Vegas. The Cougars' Mark Bigelow got an offensive rebound and drove for a layup with 15 seconds left to send it to OT.
HOLY CROSS 72, AMERICAN 64: Patrick Whearty converted a key three-point play during an 11-0 run that carried the Crusaders to their third straight NCAA Tournament in Worcester, Mass.
ALCORN ST. 71, PRAIRIE VIEW 64: Dion Callans scored 23 to lead the Braves to an upset of top-seeded Panthers in the semifinals in Birmingham, Ala.
SAM HOUSTON ST. 69, STEPHEN F. AUSTIN 66 (OT): Donald Cole hit a 3-pointer with :14 left to give the Bearkats their first NCAA berth in Huntsville, Texas.
WINTER PARK -- Eckerd advanced to the semifinal of the South Region tournament with a 83-66 victory against Morehouse. Senior center Cerwin Thompson and junior guard Sharrod McCree led the Tritons with 18 points apiece. Junior Marcus Bryant added 15 in the first half but had to leave after being head-butted while going for a rebound. He will play in tonight's semifinal at 7:30 against Rollins, a 76-61 winner over Alabama-Huntsville.
Delta State overcame a 16-point deficit to upset third-seeded Florida Southern 72-70 and plays No. 2 seed Henderson State, a 67-59 winner against Harding, at 5:30.
