New Jersey man found guilty in Pinellas court

CLEARWATER -- New Jersey bus company owner Alan Mackerley was convicted of first-degree murder Saturday in his third trial in the 1996 slaying of a business rival whose body was never found. Mackerley, 59, was found guilty in the February 1996 death of Frank Black, a competitor for decades on school bus route contracts in northern New Jersey. Mackerley faces life in prison. Prosecutors contended that Mackerley and his girlfriend, Lisa Costello, used a phony business deal to lure Black to Mackerley's Stuart home. They say Mackerley shot Black in the head and dumped his body in the Atlantic. This trial was moved to Pinellas because of heightened publicity on the east coast.
