Oak Hill Hospital offers lesson in local services

Oak Hill Hospital will have a reception for new Hernando County residents to introduce them to services available in the county.

The Oak Hill staff will conduct a tour of the hospital and share information about medical services as well as information about schools, libraries, sports and entertainment, government and social services agencies, and voting and vehicle registration.

The reception will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Hernando Medical Office Building, Entrance C, fourth floor, Room 404, 11375 Cortez Blvd., Spring Hill. Refreshments will be served. Call 597-6333 for reservations; seating is limited.

The Collectible Treasures Dollhouse, 2129 Mariner Blvd., in the Mariner Plaza, Spring Hill, recently had its grand opening. The store features collectible dolls, bears, gifts, crystals, tea sets, and doll clothing and furniture.

Brand names the store carries include Adora original dolls, Precious Moments, Zapf dolls and Bearington Bears.

The store is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and from 2 to 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. It is closed on Mondays, and is open only by appointment on Sundays. For information, call 688-6505.

Board-certified interventional cardiologist Dr. Thomas Mathews has opened the St. Luke Heart Institute, his new practice at 14533 Cortez Blvd., across from PineBrook Regional Medical Center, west of Brooksville. He is accepting patients.

The Philadelphia native is a magna cum laude graduate of the Medical College of Pennsylvania, where he completed his residency in internal medicine. He was also chosen for a cardiology fellowship at the Medical College of Pennsylvania/Hahnemann University.

Mathews specializes in clinical, nuclear and interventional cardiology and the diagnosis and treatment of peripheral vascular disorders. He has practiced in Hernando County for a number of years and has privileges at Brooksville Regional and Spring Hill Regional hospitals, Oak Hill Hospital and Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point.

The physicians, technicians and administrative staff at Good Shepherd Medical Clinic, 10087 Cortez Blvd., Spring Hill, have completed seminars in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.

The act, which goes into effect in April, sets a national standard for the use and disclosure of certain health care information. It establishes individual rights regarding personal health information while setting administrative procedures to ensure confidentiality and appropriate use of information.

The seminars were conducted by registered nurse Carol A. Acevedo.

The Good Shepherd Medical Clinic will relocate to its new home at 8425 Northcliffe Blvd., Spring Hill, this summer.

Dr. James F. Murray II has opened his practice, Nature Coast OB/GYN, at PineBrook Regional Medical Center, 14540 Cortez Blvd., Suite 104, west of Brooksville.

After attending Market America's annual leadership school conference in Miami, Spring Hill business owners Luz and David Martin of Martin Enterprise have become distributors of the anti-aging products and technologies of Market America.

The conference, which took place Feb. 7-9 in the American Airlines Arena, was attended by more than 16,000 people from the United States, Canada and Australia. Speakers included Dr. Ronald Klatz and Dr. Robert Goldman, experts in anti-aging research and founders of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine.
