By JULIANNE WU, Times Staff Writer
SEMINOLE -- Applications for the 10th annual Seminole Stampede, called "A Run in the Park," are available through the Greater Seminole Area Chamber of Commerce. To get a discount, participants can drop off their preregistration forms or mail them by April 2, along with their checks. Runners and walkers may enter the 1-mile fun run, a 5-kilometer race or a 10-kilometer race on April 12. Events will be in Walsingham Park, including a new section of the park that will be opened temporarily for the event. That section, including a fenced-in dog park, is expected to open to the public in May. On race day, late registration will take place at 7:20 a.m., with the 1-mile fun run beginning at 8 a.m. and the 5K and 10K events starting at 8:20 a.m. The Stampede, one of the chamber's major fundraisers, is held rain or shine. Last year, about 350 people participated. Fees are $10 for preregistration or $12 the day of the event for the 1-mile fun run; $12 preregistration or $14 late registration for the 5K; and $15 preregistration and $17 late registration for the 10K. Organizers are looking for about 80 volunteers. They should call the office for information. Applications may be downloaded from the chamber's Web site: www.seminolechamber.net. Or send an e-mail to stampede@seminolechamber.net, call the chamber office at 392-3245 or stop by at 8400 113th St. N. The Greater Seminole Area Chamber of Commerce will sponsor its annual Tribute to Teachers breakfast at 7:30 a.m. April 10 at Seminole Middle School, 8701 131st St. Educators from about 20 area schools will be honored. The public can attend the event for $8 or sponsor a teacher for $25. For information, call the chamber at 392-3245.
