About the school

Location: Auburn, Alabama.

Enrollment: 22,000.

Conference: Southeastern.

Nickname: Tigers.

School's claim to fame: Located deep in the rolling hills of Alabama, Auburn is known primarily for its accredited veterinary medicine and engineering programs.

Celebrity fans: Sir Charles Barkley is known to frequent a game or two when the Tigers are near.

Famous Alums: Barkley, Bo Jackson. Bo knows baseball, Bo knows football, Bo knows track and Bo knows he didn't want to sign with the Buccaneers when they drafted him No. 1 overall. Space Shuttle astronaut Jim Voss, Don Logan, CEO of Time, Inc.

About the season

HIGH POINT: The Tigers extended their winning streak to nine with a 77-68 victory over No. 10 Alabama. Picked for last in their division of the SEC, bolted to a 15-2 record, 4-0 in the West. Marquis Daniels was one of four starters to finish with 13 points. Coach Cliff Ellis said his team "added a new dimension to this season."

LOW POINT: The Tigers were feeling pretty good after beating Alabama, the first win over a Top 10 opponent sinced they defeated Arkansas in '94-95. But the tide turned when Auburn ran into Kentucky, Georgia and Tennessee. Tigers dropped five of seven conference games and limped into the SEC tournament by losing three or their final four.

TURNING POINT: Nobody probably expected much from the Tigers when they entered the SEC tournament. The glean of their fast start had worn off. Considered a bubble team for the NCAA Tournament, Auburn's first-round match against Tennessee was considered a play-in game. Marco Killingsworth scored 17 to lead the Tigers to a 66-53 victory, holding the Vols to 39 percent shooting.
