Pat Carroll

GUARD, 6-5 SENIOR

11.9 ppg, 3.6 rpg

The 3-point gunner is among the nation's best from long-range, sinking 76-of-164 (.463). On Feb. 22 he was 7-of-13 from 3-point range, scoring a career-high 27 points against St. Bonaventure. But Carroll has trouble creating his own shot.

Alexandre Sazonov

CENTER, 7-1 SENIOR

3.4 ppg, 2.2 rpg, 1.2 bpg

The tallest player in SJU history has helped transform the frontcourt into a shot-blocking force. His 33 blocks is second on the team. Sazonov only plays 13.6 minutes per game, but his coach doesn't believe in benching fifth-year seniors.

Dave Mallon

FORWARD, 6-10 FRESHMAN

1.5 ppg, 1.9 rpg

Forced into the starting lineup to shore up SJU's depleted frontcourt, Mallon is the future. He has decent range but should develop. His field goal percentage is .315 (17-54) but he can hit the trey (5-26) if left open. He suffered a concussion against Boston College.

Tyrone Barley

GUARD, 6-1 JUNIOR

6.2 ppg, 2.2 rpg

Barley got five starts this year and the top sub will see even more if called upon to fill in for the injured Delonte West. But it's his tenacious defense off the bench -- he's the team's best stopper -- that has earned Barley respect from his coaches and teammates.

The coach

Phil Martelli

RECORD: 149-96, eighth season. For 10 years, he toiled as an assistant on SJU's bench before taking the head job. The 2000 Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame inductee has led the Hawks to three NCAA and two NIT appearances.
