Celebrating art in motion
For a half century, Merce Cunningham has been stunning and delighting dance fans with his revolutionary choreography. Now the dance company that bears his name is on a tour to celebrate 50 years of performance. The show comes to Tampa on Tuesday. But don't expect a rehash of past glories; on the bill is Biped, a piece that uses motion capture software to enhance the performances of the 14 dancers and four musicians on stage.
Cunningham talks about his work and the tour in an interview that will appear in the Times' Floridian section the day of the performance.
The Merce Cunningham Dance Company will perform Biped and Native Green at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center's Ferguson Hall. Tickets are $34 and $44. Call (813) 229-7827.
