Tampa subregional

Colorado's keys to victory

1. BIG GAME FROM BIG DAVE: CU averages 6.6 blocks, and 7-foot center David Harrison averages 3.2. His shot-blocking has dominated several games this season, and it could make the difference tonight. He has had games with 11 and 10 blocks this season. Half of that many could alter the outcome.

2. PELLE POWER: The foundation of Michigan State's success is rebounding. Well, CU, led by power forward Stephane Pelle, has a better rebounding margin than the mighty Spartans. Break even with MSU and it can get frustrated. Colorado's possible edge: reserve frontcourt player Lamar Harris is a rebounding demon, averaging 5.6 in 16 minutes.

3. FEW FOULS: The Buffaloes aren't as deep as the Spartans. Staying out of foul trouble is more important for CU than MSU.

4. NO PAIN: Junior guard/forward Michel Morandais is CU's leading scorer and best one-on-one player. His sprained left ankle has been bothering him for more than two weeks. He needs to be on top of his game, because he likely will have the ball with the game on the line.

5. NO TRAVEL WOES: Colorado has struggled on the road this season, and the Buffs had a difficult time getting to Florida because of a snowstorm at home, not arriving until Thursday afternoon. They need to get their bearings quickly or they could be one and done. The Buffaloes looked lethargic during their press conference and at the 50-minute practice session Thursday night. They have 24 hours to kick into gear.
