Tampa subregional

Florida's keys to victory

1. DON'T LOOK AHEAD: The Gators have their first No. 2 seed in history, but they better not start thinking that means an automatic pass to Sunday's second round. In an event where upsets make up some of the most memorable games in history, Florida needs to stay focused, otherwise it might be part of an unpleasant highlight reel.

2. GET OUT TO A GOOD START: In its past two outings Florida has tried to overcome double-digit halftime deficits. And while the Gators rallied in both, they ultimately fell short. Florida needs to establish itself early -- then hold the lead. Falling behind, then trying to come back isn't the Gators' forte.

3. SHOOTING WELL: Four of the starters are averaging in double figures, but the shots haven't been falling as well for the perimeter players the past couple of games. The players insist confidence isn't a problem and coach Billy Donovan said if the shot is good, he wants the Gators to take it.

4. KEEP DAVID LEE OUT OF FOUL TROUBLE: Florida might not play with a real center, but the sophomore is as close as it gets. In games with big, strong post players, Florida has relied on the "team" concept inside, meaning everybody helps. But as UF learned against LSU, if Lee isn't in the game (he was in foul trouble), Florida's inside game is a prime target for opponents to exploit. Lee has scored in double figures five of the past six games, so his offense is needed.

5. POST UP: With the conference-leading rebounder on its roster, SHSU could pose some problems inside. Lee, who hasn't been pushed much around this season, says he's determined to prove the Gators deserve the No. 2 seed.
