Michigan State's keys to victory

1. REBOUNDING: This is where the game likely will be won or lost. Colorado's trio of Stephane Pelle (9.4 rebounds per game), David Harrison (8.4) and Michel Morandais (5.3) are big-time rebounders. Michigan State's Aloysius Anagonye (5.4), Kelvin Torbert (3.9) and Paul Davis (4.6) must keep the Buffaloes off the glass.

2. MAKE WRIGHT WRONG: Containing Colorado's James Wright is a must. Wright, used as a spark off the bench, is a speedy senior shooter who gives the Buffaloes a different look at guard. The Spartans can deal with big, physical players, but a fastbreak look gives them trouble. Michigan State averages 67.2 points, so eating the clock is more to its liking.

3. FREE THROWS: If it comes down to the wire then free throws will be a key. Michigan State has played 10 games decided by five points or fewer, and lost seven of them. There are good free-throw shooters -- Adam Ballinger (88 percent) and Alan Anderson (83.6 percent) -- but they must hit the shots late.

4. BENCH: Unlike seasons past, the Spartans have no superstar. They have eight players who average more than five points, so the bench will play a big role.

5. EXPERIENCE: Michigan State has plenty of it. The Spartans are playing in their sixth straight NCAA Tournament, and the seniors have played in two Final Fours. Colorado hasn't appeared since 1997, so none of its players has any NCAA Tournament experience.
