SPRING HILL -- A 21-year-old Spring Hill man was arrested Thursday and charged with breaking into liquor stores and making off with more than $100 worth of alcohol, the Hernando County Sheriff's Office reported.

Clifford A. Poley III, of 5531 Pillar Ave., was charged with commercial burglary in connection with three liquor store break-ins in the Spring Hill area during the past month.

He was being held in the county jail Friday in lieu of $3,000 bail.

His arrest came after authorities matched his fingerprints to those lifted at the latest burglary, which occurred earlier this week.

At 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, authorities responded to a burglary alarm at A to Z Discount Beverage at 4060 Deltona Blvd. When they arrived, deputies found that the front door had been smashed and two fluorescent light bulbs were disabled near the rear of the building. There were also signs that the telephone line was cut and a rear door was tampered with, according to the sheriff's report.

On Sunday, an ABC Fine Wine and Spirits store manager called police after he discovered the front window smashed at 4120 Commercial Way.

Two weeks earlier, authorities responded to A to Z Discount Beverage. They found that the front window was smashed and five bottles of liquor were stolen from the shelves.
