Rainy day, slow play too much for Huston

ORLANDO -- The constant rain was one irritant, and so was the pace of play. It's bad enough to be getting wet all morning and afternoon, but to be doing it slowly makes the situation even worse. Especially for John Huston, whose idea of a slow walk on a golf course is a mini-sprint.

Huston of Clearwater began the final round of the Bay Hill Invitational tied for fourth. A 4-over-par 76 left him tied for 20th.

"I've got to be the all-time worst rain player," Huston said. "I just played horrible. I drove it poorly, and every time you drove it in the rough, with all the rain, you could hardly hit it 50 yards out. It was a long day."

Huston's round took 5 hours, 45 minutes. The course was so wet, he said, there were some places where taking relief from casual water would have meant going back to the tee to hit.

"It's not the first time we've played in casual water," he said. "As long as the greens are okay, they're going to try to get it in."

Huston earned $50,580 and is 22nd on the PGA Tour money list with $655,570.

TY'S TRIUMPH: For Orlando teenager Ty Tryon, it was a very successful week. Tryon, 18, made his first cut of the year and had his highest finish in a PGA Tour event as a pro, tying for 10th after a final-round 69. He won $93,375, his biggest check.

"I'm maturing," he said. "My game is getting better and I'm working real hard. It was a little rough when I came out and I've turned into a lot better player."

ODDS AND ENDS: Through 37 holes of the tournament, Ernie Els was three shots behind Tiger Woods. He finished 19 back after a final-round 77. It was Els' worst finish of the year in a stroke-play event, tied for 38th. He earned $19,800 and is third on the money list. ... Adam Scott and J.L. Lewis posted the day's best scores, 5-under 67. ...
